Charleston: Where We Stayed | Two Meeting Street Inn

I almost forgot to write about the awesome Inn and bed and breakfast that we stayed in when we went to Charleston.  It was such a magical place with the most beautiful architecture - it's one of the most photographed homes in Charleston -  and there such a great story attached to it.   It is called Two Meeting Street Inn.

My favorite thing about Charleston was the history.  Knowing and thinking about all that went on, on the very streets I was walking on.  Two Meeting Street Inn holds no exception to the history.  The Inn has a great story to it: "According to tradition, Waring Carrington, a successful Charleston SC jeweler, experienced love at first sight when he saw young Martha Williams in the late 1800s. The two were married in 1890 in a celebrated society event for which 2500 invitations were sent. Fittingly, the bride's father, wealthy merchant George Williams, bestowed an incredibly beautiful wedding gift on the newlyweds. This gift, presented on a rose colored pillow, was a check for $75,000 to be used for the couple's new home at the corner of Meeting Street and South Battery, one of the most desirable locations in Charleston, SC. This gift would be generous even by today's standards in the depressed post-war South, the loving gesture was truly extraordinary. Little did George Williams know that his gift would one day become the honeymoon destination for future newlyweds seeking a romantic getaway at an exquisite Charleston bed and breakfast. In 1946, the mansion at 2 Meeting Street was purchased by Minnie Spell Carr, aunt (and great aunt) of the current owners, who established a guesthouse. The Spell family has been welcoming guests to its elegant Charleston home ever since. The guesthouse eventually became Two Meeting Street Inn, now known worldwide as a symbol of the city's grace, beauty and hospitality. Today the historic Charleston Bed and Breakfast is owned by Mrs. Carr's youngest nephew, Pete Spell."

Isn't that story awesome?  Imagine being given that as a wedding present?  To add to the story, the bride's in-law's sent the newlyweds to Europe for the two years that their house was being built as their honeymoon and to shop for furniture for their new place.  Pretty awesome right?  Her parents also didn't live far from her.  Their home was four houses up the street from Two Meeting Street Inn, it is now known as the Calhoun Mansion - a 25,000 square foot home (Two Meeting Street Inn is roughly 10,000).  Her father was one of the very few wealthy people during the Civil War which is why he was able to afford such an extravagant gift in such a troubling time.

We cannot say enough good things about the Inn.  The staff treated you like family - they downright spoiled you.   There are only 7 rooms, so you're given the utmost personal attention They were all friendly and fun to talk to, and the breakfast was outstanding every day!  The Inn was situated right by the Battery and there was such a beautiful view.  My husband loved going for runs along the Battery.  Stores were only a walk away even though the Inn is located away from the hustle and bustle of the city.  I kept saying to my husband "can you believe someone LIVED here?"  It was pretty awesome!  If we ever go back to Charleston, which I hope we do, there's no other place I'd rather stay, we loved every minute!  I definitely think I left a piece of my heart in Charleston!

*I was not compensated anything for this post, we just really loved where we stayed!

What I'm Packing: Charleston!

Our Charleston trip will be here before we know it and in true woman fashion, I have already mentally prepared what I'm packing.  I'm SO excited for this little getaway and can't wait to see all of the beauty that is Charleston,  and eat at all of the great restaurants!  The timing of our trip couldn't be perfect - we are doing during restaurant week AND beer week - perfection, right?

Seeing as we're going to be doing a lot of walking and sight seeing, I'm keeping my clothes light and airy, aside from one pair of jeans that I may bring.  My plan is to wear dresses and flip flops everywhere since it's still going to be pretty warm when we go.

Here is what I've mentally picked out.  The camera is a new present from my husband for our anniversary.  He knows I've been wanting a DSLR for a while and he surprised me with this one a few days ago, it's a must to bring to snap some pretty pictures!

I'm hoping that this is good and comfortable enough for all the walking we're going to do - I also bringing a pair of sneakers in case it rains.... but lets hope it doesn't! :)

For those who have been to Charleston, or places that require a lot of walking - am I missing anything?

Have a great Wednesday!

Disney Weekend

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  We're back from our fun few days at Disney!  We got there on Thursday afternoon and decided to go to Magic Kingdom for a bit.  We stayed at the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds and Hotel (more on that later) and were able to take a boat straight to MK which was so fun and pretty!  We went on a couple rides then headed back to our cabin to meet my husband's brother and his wife who were spending the weekend with us, and eat dinner.

Friday we started the morning off going to Hollywood Studio's to try to get J to go on the Star Tours ride or fight Darth Vader and Storm Troopers but he was either too short or too young, so we headed back to Magic Kingdom and spent the rest of the day.

Saturday we hung out all day at the Fort Wilderness Campground.  There's so many fun things to do there - it is hands down my favorite Disney hotel we've ever stayed at, not to mention the grounds are so pretty!  We brought the kids' bikes (rentals are also available) and we walked most of the grounds - which are huge!  The kids went on pony rides, which they LOVED!  In the evening we went to the Fort Wilderness Campfire which had Chip and Dale mingling with the crowd, after that there was a campfire singalong.  A man came on stage with a guitar and sang tons of songs nursery rhymes, country songs and Disney songs.  The kids were singing and dancing like crazy, which was cute to see!

Yesterday after we got back, we went to our friend's house for a Superbowl party.  I don't understand football at all, but love a Superbowl party - the food is always so good, and then there's the Halftime show.  I'm not a huge Katy Perry fan, but I thought she did a great job, and I loved when Missy Elliot came on and sang all of those old school songs!

All in all, it was a pretty awesome weekend!  How was yours?

2014 In Review

Crazy that this is my last post of 2014, where did the year go?!  I'm convinced that time does go by faster as we get older - do you remember years taking forever when we were kids?  Now it seems like it was just New Years day last year!

I thought it would be fun to review my year.  It's definitely been a busy one for our family with TWO weddings in our immediate families!

January

It was a pretty quiet month, we had some family in town and played tourist in our area. We went to where they film Gator Boys on Animal planet and took a tour of the Everglades on an air boat ride and saw an alligator show.

We also took our first Disney trip of the year.

February
This was an exciting month - my sister got engaged!!  I was so happy to be part of that moment and glad I got to witness it happening.

We also took our family pictures - these may have been my favorite yet.

March
In March, I got nominated for the Liebster award, which was fun - it's nice to know that people out there like reading your blog enough to nominate you for something.

I also started brainstorming for my Brother/Sister-In-Law's hot air balloon bridal shower and we took the kids to Disney on Ice.

April

April was a pretty low key month.  I went to the John Legend concert with my mom and enjoyed our first full day at the beach since the water and weather warmed up.

May
We took the kids on another Disney trip, and stayed at one of my favorite hotels of theirs Coronado Springs.
Kids and Cabernet had it's first linkup Wino Wednesday - I so love this linkup and reading everyone's favorite wines.
We also had the first bridal shower of the year for my brother-in-law, which turned out beautiful!

I also did one of my favorite (and very simple) DYI's to date and made our Rake Wine Glass Holder

June

We spent a lot of time outdoors enjoying summer and had a Girl's Night Out for my sister-in-law to be.

July
July marked the first wedding of the year.  Everything was beautiful!

I shared six habits to a happy home (at least that work for us ;))

August

I stared brainstorming for our 10 year anniversary party - gold everywhere! eShatki also sent me a beautiful dress that I was able to review, which I loved!

September
September marked our 10 year anniversary, and a party to celebrate it, which was a blast having our closest friends and family together in one room.

October
We had another low key month with a lot of family time and crafting with the kids - which is always good in my book!

November

One of my favorite months this year - we went on a trip to Punta Cana with our best friends and had the best time and made some amazing memories!

December
Another favorite.  December was all about my sister's and her wedding (which I'll recap soon).  I threw her the cutest Lingerie Shower Tea Party and a few days ago celebrated her big day!

It was a great year filled with lots of memories and special times. Can't wait to see what memories are made in 2015.

Tropical Getaway

In a few weeks we along with our bff couple are going on a little getaway to the Dominican Republic.  I'm kind of stressed because we're not taking the kids.  I honestly don't even know what we were thinking when we planned this trip.  As much as I always think how much I'd like an adults only vacation, it stresses me out leaving them behind.  The kids will stay at our house so they'll continue their normal routines and be with our family.  I know they will be in great hands, but the fact that I wont be here freaks me out a little.  Has anyone gone on vacation without their kids?  How were the kids while you were gone?

Ok enough of the stress talk -- I get a little excited (of course) when I think of what I'm going to pack and wear while I'm there.  I'm get even more excited when I think about endless umbrella drinks and getting to sleep in ;)

Below are the styles I'm thinking of bringing.  I have that pink bathing suit in black, lots of maxis and jumpsuits.  I'm ready for nights out -- now need to focus on what I'm wearing during the day, except bathing suits.

#tbt Our 10 Day Caribbean Cruise

Yesterday as I was looking for pictures of my pixie cut for my All About Me 2 post, I came across the album of a 10 day Caribbean cruise we took in December  2009.  That cruise was one of the best vacations we've ever been on.  We went to Princess Cay (owned my Princess Cruise Lines), St. Kitts, Dominica, Barbados, St. Lucia and Antigua -- there might be one or two more I can't remember.

We went with a big group of friends which was awesome because it made the 10 days full of fun.  I think long cruises are best with friends.  We sang karaoke, did wine tasting, went on excursions, stayed up late eating and talking, went to the hot tub, sat by the pool and just had the best time together.

For those of you wondering, he made it to the Top 5 of the karaoke contest.  Can he sing?  Not-so-much, but he has great stage presence! :)

This vacation is one of those vacations that goes down in history in our group of friends.  The one that when we're all together will be brought up, stories will be shared, and we'll all get a good laugh out of.  It was also one of the last vacations we would have taken before I got pregnant and our lives changed forever; vacations will never be as care-free again.

Seeing all of these island pictures makes me look forward to our 10 year anniversary trip later in the year to Dominican Republic!  While I've been to Dominican Republic many times since I have family there, this will be the first time I stay in a resort and see it "tourist style".

Have a great day!

Mousekateers! (Disney Recap)

Happy Tuesday, I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend, aren't they the best?!  As you all know, last week we headed to Disney World for a couple of days.  We have weekday annual passes, so we go often.  As a child I went to Disney often too since we lived in Orlando and my mom worked for Disney, and I have so many great memories there!  I'm so happy that our kids will grow up with the same type of memories :)

We headed up on Tuesday late morning, got there around 2:30 and checked into our hotel.  We stayed at Coronado Springs.  I cannot say enough wonderful things about the hotel it was gorgeous!  It was one of my favorite hotels that we have ever stayed in.  The architecture and landscaping were amazing!  The resort is supposed to be reminiscent of ancient Mexico.

We arrived at Magic Kingdom (my favorite) at around 3:30 and hit up It's A Small World.  The kids love the ride and I think it's a great way to ease them into the rides.  After that we met Elsa and Anna - I was SO excited to meet them, I think I was just as about as excited as E!  By the way it's CRAZY how huge the movie is right now -- Disney sells out of everything SO fast - they cannot keep up with the demands.  It's hard to get any merchandise and of course the merchandise that they do have is priced extremely high!

After meeting Anna and Elsa, we hit up more rides and character meeting and left the park around 8:30pm.

The next day we took it easy in the morning, we ate breakfast (no trip is complete without Mickey waffles for the kids) and hit up the pool.  We decided that we liked going to the park better in the afternoon - it wasn't as hot and the crowds seemed better, plus I wanted E to nap so that we can stay late and see the Electrical Parade - which I have always loved.  Everyone took a nap and we got to the park again around 3:30 and stayed until 9:30.  We went to Magic Kingdom to do some things we weren't able to do the day before, like the Little Mermaid ride, meeting Ariel, and the Tea Cups.

How cool is this pool?!  They also had a huge waterslide

It was another great trip, and we already can't wait to go back in the Fall!
