Next Thursday is our 10 year wedding anniversary. I cannot believe that we have been married so long! Some days it feels like we have been married forever and others, it feels like we got married not too long ago. I was looking over pictures this weekend and it was crazy to see how much has changed in 10 years time does fly!
Marriage as everyone knows isn't always the easiest - all marriages have ups and downs. Over the course of the years we have both learned from each other and have learned how to make our marriage work. Here are some tips that have worked for us.
Marriage as everyone knows isn't always the easiest - all marriages have ups and downs. Over the course of the years we have both learned from each other and have learned how to make our marriage work. Here are some tips that have worked for us.
- Communication- always take time to talk and hear each other out, a marriage cannot work without GOOD communication.
- Spend time together - We all lead busy lives and sometimes it can be easy to get swept up in everything that there is to do. It's important to make and spend time with each other. Whether it be a weekend away, or hanging out at home.
- Pick your battles - When we first got married we both complained about what each of us did that drove us crazy. As the years have gone on, we have learned to keep our mouths shut and not pick on everything. It alleviates a lot of dumb fights (of course we aren't always perfect at this).
- Apologize freely - this is something that I still have to work at, but it's important to be humble and apologize when you're in the wrong and not always feel like you have to win an argument.
- Team work - I've said it before, but we divide the chores in the house and both contribute to our house 50/50.
- Hug, hand hold, kiss everyday - such a simple way to keep connected - even at the most hectic moments.
- Have a hobby or something you like to do in common - even if it's a favorite show, just something to bring you together and allow you to have fun.
- Show you care or were thinking about them in small ways- leave notes, plan something special, buy your husband's/wife's favorite candy or flowers.
- Treat each other the way you want to be treated - the golden rule applies for marriages too ;)
- Be grateful for each other and always look at the positives and try to overlook anything negative.
