The First Day of School

Yesterday was one of the most dreaded days of a parent.  That day when your child starts school and leaves your side.  I don't think any parent ever feels prepared... it's the end of an era and the beginning of a new one - a long new one.

We started preparing the day before by washing her uniforms, getting her backpack ready and assembling her teacher's gifts.  We decided on a Starbucks cup and a gift card.  I made tags that said  "A little treat to help you get back into the 'grind' ".

Yesterday morning we woke up bright and early - which she hated!  She loves cuddling in bed with us for a good 30-45 minutes before coming downstairs so having to get up was very different for her.  Either way, she was excited and we got ready for the big day. I took a 100 pictures and tried to savor every moment before we dropped her off.

We got to her classroom and she quickly sat down and started making friends and drawing and gave us kisses and waved goodbye.

The rest of the day I was a ball of nerves wondering how she was doing and if she was having fun.  Once it was finally time to get her she ran out to us and have us the biggest hug and started crying a bit saying that she missed us.  She said she didn't realize school was so long.  The teacher said she did great and E came back with a lot of stories.  I know she had a fun day, but it's going to take some getting used to us not being together.  We're both so used to our routine that this seems so foreign to us - I hope in time it gets easier... sooner rather than later.

How did the first day go for you?  Did it take a while for your child to get into the routine of going to school for such long days?

As a teacher that gift would rock!!! I've been teaching 5 years and I don't think I've ever gotten a beginning of the year gift. You are so sweet! Amazing things are coming your way as you see your daughter learn and grow this year. Good luck!

Nice gift idea. I love the saying you came up with. I enjoy getting first day of school gifts, they start the year off right :). Each day will get easier and easier and you will find a new routine. She will come home tired more so the first week and then the stories will be coming, the playdates will be asked to have and even the girl drama will begin and you will wonder again, how did we get here so fast. Just be there and enjoy every. single. moment. Soon enough they graduate and leave. I know a bummer comment! Have a great day Amanda.

Aww Amanda!! I hope that you were OK yesterday!!! It sounds like she did very well though. I'm not a mom but I'm sure that after a while it will be great. Once she makes some friends and stuff. Love the gifts that you made, so creative. Stay strong lady and I hope that you have a good day today!! :-)

So many tears!!! How did you handle her getting teary during pick up? That's what I'm nervous for-I feel Lily will go willingly & be exited but the pick up will likely be emotional..for us both.

Such a great teacher gift! That and wine are my go-to's and I may need to steal your cute tags ;) I'm glad she had a good day! It's definitely a big adjustment. It took us basically the entire year to get it down. It went in waves of good and bad and it brought out a whole new side of Avery that I hadn't seen before. It is amazing just how much they learn now though! They're years ahead of us!

Oh, I love that teacher gift idea! I might have to steal that one for Mac's teachers. Glad to hear that she liked school. I'm nervous about my preschooler doing 3 days this year. Why do they have to grow up so soon?
