Summer In Florida

It's no secret that it gets H-O-T down in the Sunshine State, and not only is it hot but the humidity is through the roof!  We all try our best to keep cool enjoy this Season as much as we can... here's how we do Summer in Florida.

Beaches

One of the keys to staying (kind of) cool is hitting the beach or pool.  My preference is sitting under a palm tree because it's just too dang hot not to sit under some shade.   Another key here it to either go to the beach in the morning OR late afternoon to avoid rain.  It rains almost every afternoon here, I'm talking downpours!

Sunscreen

Don't leave home without it, you will burn - enough said!

Mangoes

If you would ask me what Summer smells like down here (at least in South FL) it's mangoes.  For us it marks Summer.  Mangoes and mango trees are EVERYWHERE.  Everyone knows someone who has a tree and we always get tons.  There's nothing like a fresh mango off of a tree.  Because there is so much we not only eat them, but freeze them, put them in smoothies, sangrias, make cakes, salsas - ect!  They are one of my favorite parts of summer!

Maxi Dresses/Shorts and Flip Flops

All day everyday!

Cute Sunglasses

You need a cute pair since you're almost always wearing them!

White Wine or Rose

You didn't think I'd leave wine out did you? ;)  This summer I'm getting more and more into whites - so good and refreshing and perfect for sipping on when you're outside.

Hurricane Readiness

Summer marks Hurricane Season, so it's time to check our generators and stock up on canned goods, batteries and lots of gallons of water - just in case!

My dad called me today and let me know that he was miserable in the heat and it was only 8:00 AM!! I don't know how I grew up in Florida because now I hate the heat, like the uncomfortable kind! Light and airy outfits are definitely a must! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

Love all of this! It is definitely already SUPER hot down here but perfect for white wine and rose sipping on the patio in the evenings! And yes to sunglasses. I have like 10 pairs just to make sure I never go without!

It's hot hot hot over here in CA too but I prefer the pool to the beach :) Mainly because the beach and the water is so cold! But other than that, we've got about the same list! Mainly don't forget the sunscreen! And the wine :)

That kirklands pinot is SOOO GOOD! We just had out first tropical storm hit here in Houston. We're still feeling the effects of it today with heavy rain. It's gonna be a long hurricane season I think. I guess I should take a look at that checklist!

Definitely can't forget the wine! Now that I've been here a few years, I've definitely gotten used to the heat (I'll take it over the extreme cold in a northern winter any day). Dressing light and cool, and staying by the pool or the beach is the best. Plus you get such a great breeze down by the water while at the beach :)

Great list!! You can never be too ready for a hurricane ugh! They always seem to make their way up here and knock things off for a few days. I really think the wine is the biggest necessity ;)

Mangoes! I would love to have friends just giving me fresh mangoes to eat. For us here in Maryland eating crabs signifies summer and I'm finally having some this weekend.

This summer pregnancy has made me fall in love maxi dresses. I'm not much of a beach person thanks to my super fair skin. I even burn through sunscreen despite reapplication. I've got great genes lol. Summer here in VA is full of strawerries, usually camping, and trips to the river. Good stuff :)
