I've been seeing these posts go around for a while now and I think they're so much fun to read. For the most part, I'm a pretty frugal person - I don't like to break the bank too much and since we're only on one income I've very careful on what I spend, because I'd never want to go into debt, the word alone gives me anxiety.
Here's what I splurge or save on:
ONE | A cocktail dress to wear to a wedding
Save. If I don't already own something that I haven't worn in a long time (yes I'm one of those that doesn't like to wear the same dress to functions if they're in the same year haha) I'll pull something out of the closet. If not you'll see me in TJ Maxx or The Limited buying something.
TWO | A glass of wine at a restaurant
Save. Although we all know I love me some wine, I will not spend tons on a glass at a restuarant. I usually will pick out the cheapest or second to cheapest. I cringe at the thought that I'm buying a GLASS for what I would normally buy a BOTTLE for in some cases.
THREE | A hotel room
Splurge. While I don't need to stay at the Ritz I'm also not going to stay at a hotel that I don't feel isn't 1) clean and 2) pretty - we're on vacation after all. On cruises we always get a balcony room and when we go on vacations we always go on the nicer side when picking hotels.
FOUR | A haircut
Splurge. I have very difficult hair that not everyone can do. I'm known to go to my favorite Dominican Salon a time or two a month to get my hair blown out (they understand my hair pain). And two-three times a year I go to my hairdresser and spend a generous amount on a dye, cut and blow.
FIVE | Wild card
Purses - Splurge. I love a good name brand purse (Kate Spade being my favorite) that I can wear for a long time, take a little of a beating, and look like a cute accessory on top of it all. I have way too many purses, they are my weakness for sure - makeup is a very close second.
What do you save or splurge on?

i totally agree with you on the haircuts + hotels! xo jillian - cornflake dreams
I'm with you on haircuts, splurge because you wear your hair every day :)!
I will usually buy cheap with a glass of wine, but if we are at a fancy dinner my husband and I will go middle of the road.
I agree on the hotel and hair! I also go both ways with handbags. I like to have at least one really nice bag and then some less expensive/trendy ones on hand as well. I also like to splurge on boots! Since I typically buy one really good pair for the winter, it's worth it!
I'm with you on purses - you know that!! I will always splurge on a great bag that lasts for a very long time!! Hope you have a great Thursday! xo, Biana BlovedBoston
I'm with you on the wine - I love it but can never justify the huge mark-up at restaurants for a single glass (obviously you must buy the bottle to get a better bargain, haha!)
Totally with you on the wine! Markup is so crazy. I am not a purse girl so I do typically splurge as I use it forever.
I definitely have to splurge a little on hotels as well, nothing extravagant but I want a nice room. And a glass of wine is never something I splurge on for sure.
i agree with you on all of this! and def about how you pay for a glass what you could get for a bottle!
I agree with you on so much of these! I always order the cheapest or second cheapest glass of wine. Why pay a lot for wine when it's going to be gone in 10 minutes? It doesn't make me feel or look any different if I drink a $8 glass of wine versus a $15.
I hate wearing the same thing twice (dresses I mean) I have a system in my closet where once I wear something I put it at the back and I won't allow myself to wear anything again until I have gone through my whole closet. I just started this, this fall and I am almost at a complete circle!
Ohh yes, so cheap with wine at restaurants (they are ridic with their prices, always!). Purses and shoes are totally splurges - because the good ones are usually name brand ;)
Totally agree with you on this whole list! I will never understand why a glass of wine costs as much (sometimes more) than a whole bottle from the store :-P
I agree with you about the hotels and the wine.We only buy expensive bottles of wine for holidays or special occasions. However I say splurge on the handbags. :-)
I am with you 100% on all of these! I always splurge on my hair and nice hotel rooms!
i think hair is a must to splurge for - i'm just lucky my friend is my hairdresser! i don't love handbags enough to spend a lot of money on them though lol
Yes to the haircuts and hotels! Pretty is a must on vacation ;) Drooling over those Kate Spade bags - I want them all!
I need to do one of these posts!! I completely agree on the dresses and hotel rooms! Half the time I wear a dress to a nice event it tears or I trip on it, yada yada. Hope you're having a great day :)
Love this idea for a post,.I will definitely copy :-)
I splurge on hotels and hairdressers too-- I have difficult hair as well… although for just a blow out, I'll go by anyone! But apparently with the wine, the trick is always to order the second cheapest ;-)
Fun post!! I agree, splurge on hair and hotels!
I agree with you on almost all of these, except haircuts! I cringe when I have to spend more than $30 on my hair haha. Such a fun post!
Have fun in the calm before the storm. An exciting week ahead! Love that quote!
